While my daughter and I were in Canmore last summer, we climbed the hill behind the hotel to see the hoodoos. There were only a few, but it was well worth the climb. They do look very different from the ones in the Drumheller area.
I’m still going through photos from our trip to Banff this past summer. When we finished the trip to Mount Norquay, we visited Lake Minnewanka.
This is a very beautiful lake and would be good to revisit. It is 21 km long, so we only saw one very small part. They have boat cruises going out during the summer – this will have to be on our bucket list if/when we visit the area again.
I’ve never actually watched the moon rise. Usually I first notice it when the moon is actually showing or is above the horizon. We saw the super-moon on the 13th after the moon was already up, so we decided to try and catch the moon coming up the next night.
We didn’t realize that it would be much later coming up the second night, so ended up waiting for the moon to come up. It was interesting to see the sky lightening in that area, and eventually seeing the moon come up.
I really enjoyed visiting Banff this summer. We were able to go up in the Banff gondola, and the chairlift at Mount Norquay. Each of these places give great opportunities to see the mountains around Banff. I especially enjoyed watching the lighting change on the mountains because of the cloud cover.
When our daughter and I were in Banff this summer, we were able to see some mountain sheep. To us, they looked like goats, but they are known as sheep. The males have long curved horns, but we didn’t see any of these. The ones we saw were females and young, as far as I know.
One of my favourite times of the year is the first snowfall. It doesn’t always come when we expect it, and often catches some of us before we have everything done for the winter. I enjoy seeing the lake still open, the loons on the lake, and the snow along the shore and on the trees.
