The Ice is Gone and the Birds are Back …

These are Common Goldeneye ducks. They are migrating through. We only see them in the spring and fall. It isn’t hard to see why they are called goldeneyes.

The Buffleheads come around the same time as the Goldeneyes and are often seen close to each other. They are also on their way north. These ones were on the ice and in the water. I find it difficult to photograph them as they are spooked very easily.

And, the loons are back. I’m thankful they stay for the summer. We heard them calling before the ice was completely out of the lake.
