We’ve had a snapping turtle laying eggs near our place. We’ve seen one lay eggs in the same place before, but something dug the eggs up and ate them. This time, a protective “grid” was put over them to help protect them. Hopefully this works.
Snapping turtles (or snappers, as they are called around here sometimes) are not the most attractive being to look at. They are the largest freshwater turtle that you will find in Ontario. They are in decline, and because of this, in 2017, the law was made that it is illegal to hunt them.
