Here are some more pictures of the humpback whales. We enjoyed our time on the fishing boat – it is used for tourism in the summer, and for lobster in off-season for tourists. It was very foggy, but we were able to get out to where the whales were.

It was a beautiful, foggy morning on our lake and river today. As I was coming around a bend in the river, I spotted a great blue heron. Even though we have them on our lake, we don’t get the opportunity to see them up close very often. This one was very accommodating.
At first, we thought that something was wrong with this bird. I believe it is a brown thrasher, and it was “anting”. The thrasher is lying on the ground, and letting ants climb on it. When we were in Killbear Provincial Park a few weeks ago, we saw a common merganzer swimming in Georgian Bay and then later saw another one lying on the beach. When she moved we were able to see her chicks. Life is interesting.
