Eastern Wild Turkey Feather

We found a turkey feather last summer, and I’ve been meaning to take some photos of it. We’ve had a flock of turkeys in the area, and occasionally see them on our neighbour’s property, the road, and sometimes on our own. One of these days I may be able to get a good photo of one. I would especially like to get one of a male (gobbler) when he fans his tail and puffs up his feathers. The turkeys are very timid, and can run quite fast, so it may be awhile before I get some photos of them.

Apparently we had about 274 turkeys in Ontario in 1984, but this has since grown to over 30,000 by now. They can live to over 10 years in the wild.

My goal was to have a white background, and I had used auto for my white balance. This needed to be changed, but when you work in Camera Raw, you can change this.

This next photo has a loon feather included in it. My purpose for including it is to show the difference in size. The turkey feather is much bigger than the loon feather.

I enjoy the details in the feathers. Even though I don’t think a turkey is the prettiest bird, it is interesting to look at the details on the feather. God has provided the turkey with some interesting details.
