Long-tailed Duck

We recently saw a duck we have never seen before on our lake. I was told that this is a female long-tailed duck. It looks very different than the male, which we have not seen. Our neighbour was fortunate enough to see the male.

The male has a long tail, but the female does not. They breed in the Arctic and spend the winters along both coasts of North America.

We are on their migration path, but this is the first time I’ve seen one.

They are excellent divers, and can dive up to 200 feet, but most of their feeding is at about 30 feet down. This lake would be perfect for them.

As you can see, the lake was rough that day, but that didn’t seem to bother the duck. I’m sure she was used to much rougher water.

Ephesians says to be strong in the Lord.  Paul then goes on to talk about putting on the full armor of God.  He is the One who gives us strength, and we can be encouraged by this, especially when our going is rough.
